Writing has always been cathartic for me. I am a much better communicator with pen and ink than by conversation. And all though my writing typically consists of one too many run-ons, I know it’s in my voice. That said, I have always wanted to start a blog, and have had almost a decade of ideas of what I would want it to be. It took years to finally type this introduction (but let’s be honest—life has been a whirlwind… Opening my own firm, getting married, hiring a team, having a baby and now buying a historic building I am constantly restoring). Alas, my ten-year anniversary to myself is finally introducing Bishop Street, a blog where I can write about all things I love, that inspire me, and hopefully you too. I will, of course, focus primarily on Interior Design but also my other passions: cooking, traveling, antique shopping, mothering and taking you along the journey of restoring our Grand Home.

The name Bishop Street comes from a monumental time in my career; my very first office space, which was a literal shoebox of a space on Bishop Street (a pure coincidence!), in a charming Art Deco building with two windows overlooking Chicago Avenue. I think back to that space, and time in my career, often. It was when I decided to be ‘all-in’ on the venture of being on my own and a huge leap of faith (at the time) to rent a studio space. I had a handful of projects I could handle on my own. I had enough time to keep my small space tidy and organized, and spend late nights there dreaming of growing my firm, starting a family, writing this blog, and so many other ideas that would become goals. I didn’t know it at the time, but the simplicity of the space, and that time in my life, is one I will always cherish. Fast forward many years later and I have a constantly growing team, a huge studio space, a brilliant toddler, and a supportive husband who also just went all-in with me and joined the team. I have to pinch myself at times.

Next week Brianne Bishop Design will be celebrating ten years in business. I don’t know where the time has gone, but I am so incredibly proud of what we’ve become. As the renovations in the studio come to completion over the summer, we will be having a Grand Opening/Anniversary party- stay tuned! In the meantime, follow along with this blog as there’s more exciting news to come!

Inspired,

Brianne
